Using a background in launching rockets to launch a new brand.
After 10 years in the space industry, Ryan Kelly saw a lack of innovation in the outdoor industry and decided to take his career cliffside. “Every day at work I pour myself into someone else’s dream. I realized I need to redirect that energy into what I want to do.” Kelly tapped on his coworker to join him. They went from launching rockets together to launching Scuervo: Fall-protection systems for climbers that will soon expand into a full outdoor line of gear and equipment. His goal is to change the game for climbers by bringing costs down and ensuring safety so more people can give it a shot.
Scuervo took home 2nd place, winning $3,000 of funding. “We’ve got big ideas. But they’re the type of ideas that take a lot of research and development to make sure they’re done right.” Kelly and his partner plan to use the funding for R&D to ensure their product is safe and credible before bringing it to market.
