Responsive Layout Container
The Responsive Layout is the preferred layout option for nowadays web pages. Therefore BATcom provides OOTB the Responsive Grid layout option enabled by default, which is enabled via policies and affects the following elements:
- Root Container for the following page templates:
- Home Page template
- Content Page template
- Experience Fragment template
- Flyout template
- Container Component
It is possible to change the layout of the individual Container components by changing the Layout option to Simple in the dialog layout property.
Important to note that the selecting the Default value in the dialog, will have same effect as selecting the Responsive Grid option, as it matches the value of the property set up in the policies.
It provides a paragraph system that allows editors to position components within a responsive grid in different device sizes.
This page showcases a set of layout configurations using different components.
Checkout the Exceptions section to learn more about which components should not be used in Responsive Grid containers.
Two columns
In the following examples a 2 column layout is showcased.
A different look and feel is achieved in different device sizes. In order to see how it behaves:
- Select "Emulator" view in editor and the generic emulators sizes provided
- "View as published" this page and resize the browser window

Container Background full page width
This style option does not work correctly with responsive grid due to technical reasons.
Therefore it is editor's responsability to set up the following tree structure of components in order to achieve the expected behaviour:
- Container with Simple layout and Background full page width style.
- Container with Responsive Grid layout
- Other components

Three columns
Using the BATcom as an Accelerator for a new greenfield project
80% of the initial phase of new greenfield projects setups are very similar, if not the same. BATcom covers those similar parts and by that speeds up the first project phases considerably.
It includes architectural, development, and infrastructural setup that may take up to 6 months if done from scratch.
At the same time, the initial setup is one of the most critical phases of a new project, as all mistakes done at this very early stage cost extremely a lot to be repaired later.
Furthermore, this first setup phase is critical to establishing trust - delivering visible results quickly is very helpful to this end.

Exceptions
There are some components which do not behave in a responsive manner, so it is not recommended to be used inside a responsive grid container, use the Simple layout instead for:
- Header. Use the different variant options to obtain the preferred layout configuration. This custom component already provides OOTB a responsive grid adaptation for different devices.
- Column Control. Use inside a simple layout container in order to achieve the same results as with the Responsive Grid, the behavior in the different devices is provided OOTB.
- List. As with above components, the List also provides OOTB its own layout representation in different devices.
- Content Stream provides OOTB its own layout representation in different devices.
